Malaysian clinics have specific requirements that differ from generic international guides: MyKad NFC reading, PDPA compliance, bilingual UI (BM/English), and integration with Malaysian EMR systems. This guide covers all of them.
Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010, patient data must be collected with consent, stored securely, and accessible to the patient on request. The MOVO-X kiosk shows a consent notice before reading the MyKad. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. A PDPA compliance certificate is available on request.
In MOVO-X Admin → Kiosk Settings → Language: enable Bahasa Malaysia as the default language. Set English as the secondary language. The kiosk will display BM by default and allow patients to switch to English at the welcome screen. Traditional and Simplified Chinese are also available.
In Admin → Kiosk → NFC Settings: select "MyKad (JPN)" as the card type. Test with a sample MyKad. The kiosk will read: IC number, full name (as per IC), date of birth, gender, race, address, and the JPEG photo from the IC chip.
Set the phone number validation to Malaysian format (+60 prefix, 10–11 digits). Configure WhatsApp reminders to send from your clinic's registered Malaysian number. Set the timezone to MYT (UTC+8).
Private clinics in Malaysia are regulated under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (PHFSA). Check with your clinic's legal adviser whether registration of the digital appointment system is required under PHFSA. MOVO-X can provide documentation to support the registration process.
Run a pilot with 50 patients over one week. Specifically test: MyKad read success rate (target >95%), Bahasa Malaysia UI clarity, WhatsApp message delivery (ensure messages are in the language the patient prefers), and billing integration with your Malaysian accounting system.
Set "MyKad Number" as the primary patient identifier — it is more reliable than names (which may vary in spelling) and ensures you do not create duplicate records.
The PDPA consent notice on the kiosk must be in Bahasa Malaysia as the primary language — English is acceptable as a secondary language.
Test the WhatsApp reminders with Malaysian numbers in the +601X range — some early WhatsApp Business integrations had issues with Malaysian carrier routing.
Yes. MOVO-X uses the WhatsApp Business API which works with any Malaysian mobile number regardless of carrier. The number must be registered as a WhatsApp Business account.
Yes. MOVO-X is built with PDPA compliance as a core requirement. Data residency is in Southeast Asia (Supabase ap-southeast-1). Consent capture, data access rights, and data retention policies are all configurable in the admin portal.
MOVO-X stores all identifier variants (old blue IC, MyKad, passport) against the same patient record. If a patient checks in with their old IC number and has a MyKad, the system will link the records automatically on the next MyKad read.
MOVO-X deploys AI kiosk and queue management systems for clinics and hospitals across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Talk to our team about your specific setup.
